  • The Devil
    MRS. LUCIFER

    Narrator:

The devil don’t keep his promises
    And neither does his wife
But don’t you promise the Lucifers anything
Or they’ll be hounding you for life.

We all know about Mr. Lucifer
    Enough’s been said of him
It’s about his wife, you never hear of her
The sexy half of mortal sin

She’s got hungry eyes that turn angel blue
When she sets her sights on you
Leather garter thighs that play peek-a-boo
While she spins lies that sound so true

    Mrs. Lucifer (CHORUS)

Ah ha ha ha … Ah ha ha ha … Ah ha ha ha ha ha….

Don’t believe a single word they say
    None of it is true
We’re all imperfect in our little ways
    Except for maybe you
I’ll be all you want me to, your perfect fantasy
Help you do all that you want to do, Just give your soul to me.

    Narrator:

Oh Mrs. Lucifer, she pretends to be
    Long estranged from her man
But what the Lucifers don’t want you to see
Is that his wife is part of the plan

Beware, beware when you hear her declare
That they’re just friends; their love is dead
It’s the badger snare, yes she thinks all is fair
In sex and war when she enters your bed

She breathes bombshell sighs from those ruby lips
    Which she uses to cajole
She can hypnotize you with her lusty hips
As she hooks in to your soul

    Mrs. Lucifer (CHORUS)

Ah ha ha ha … Ah ha ha ha … Ah ha ha ha ha ha….

Don’t believe a single word they say
    None of it is true
I’m an angel in my own strange way
    And I love you
I’d give you all that you deserve
And then I’d give you more
If you’ll be mine I’ll have the whole world serve
    The one I adore.

    Narrator:

Seems like yesterday I heard my mama say
To my brothers, sisters and me
Beware the Lucifers, they’ll whisk your soul away
Straight to hell when you trying to be free

Invite me in your life, Welcome to my wife
    Says Lucifer, a generous man
But if you try to leave, he pulls it out his sleeve
That the wife was part of the plan

They’ve got hungry eyes that turn angel blue
When they set their sights on you
Cause if they’re gonna burn, they want you to burn too
An age-old story that won’t end with you

    Mrs. Lucifer (CHORUS)

Ah ha ha ha … Ah ha ha ha … Ah ha ha ha ha ha….

Don’t believe a single word they say
    None of it is true
We’re all imperfect in our little ways
    Except for maybe you
I’ll be all you want me to, your perfect fantasy
Help you do all that you want to do, Just give your soul to me.
Don’t believe a single word they say
    None of it is true
I’m an angel in my own strange way
    And I love you
I’d give you all that you deserve
And then I’d give you more
If you’ll be mine I’ll have the whole world serve

  • The Future
    LETTER TO THE FUTURE

By the time you read this, I’ll be dead.
And I hope you’ll remember me
Not for all the sins I shed,
Or for all the sins I nurtured and fed,
Or the times that I let Fear in my bed,
And betrayed Courage in a passion of dread.

Yes, I hope you’ll remember me,
Not for all the things I did,
Or the things I failed to do, or say, or see, or pursue

    CHORUS
    I hope you’ll remember me,
For all the things I loved,
And the things I tried to be,
And do, and pursue, and say, and see.
    I hope you’ll remember me,
    Even if it’s hardly ever.
    Once is enough as Eternity
    Dances off into Forever.

By the time you read this, you will know
So much more than I once knew
And I hope that even though
You’ll see I lived for things long gone, somehow you
Will see a butterfly effect or two
Of lasting things I took some moments to do

Yes, I hope that you’ll remember me
For faith, hope, love and charity.
And should we ever meet before that day that I am gone,

    CHORUS
I hope you’ll see in me
    Somewhere in my mortality
    Faith, hope, love and charity,
Those things that will live on
In the times that you think of me,
    Even if that’s almost never,
While you move on as Eternity
    Sweeps you off into Forever.
    I hope you’ll remember me
    Even if it’s almost never,
While you move on as Eternity
    Sweeps you off into forever.

    THE SOUL INQUISITOR

    Long ago, in my dreams
There came to me a visitor
To ask what is just as it seems
    His name, the Soul Inquisitor.

Does ugliness hide itself in beauty?
    Does beauty hide in ugliness?
And if they hide within each other,
    Are they condemned to loneliness?

Can good hide itself in evil?
Can evil hide itself in good?
If you should ever meet the devil,
Would you see in him what you should?
Or have you dealt with him already,
And know him by a different name?
And if you learned that you had pleased him,
Would you feel pride or fear or shame?

    CHORUS
And would your pride or fear or shame
At your role in the devil’s game
Leave you changed or much the same
When you face the Eternal Mirror?
    And reflecting on your reflection,
    Would drifting mists of self-deception
    Cloud your deepest introspection?
Or would you watch yourself grow clearer?

Do you have that special vision?
To see darkness when days seem long?
Would you hear a screaming legion
    Above a nightingale’s song?
And if they threw you in a prison
Where days were night and friends were far,
Would you have that special vision
To map your freedom in the stars?

Can good hide itself in evil?
Can evil hide itself in good?
If you should meet angels in rags
Would you see in them what you should?
Or have you dealt with them already
And know them by a different name?
And if you knew what they thought of you
Would you feel pride or fear or shame?

    CHORUS
And would your pride or fear or shame
At angels’ praise or angels’ blame
Make you ponder all you’ve gained,
Or perhaps, all you have lost?
And would whom or what you’ve sold or bought,
And done in word or deed or thought,
Bring you what you’ve always sought?
And would it really be worth the cost?

With that, he left, my visitor,
    My piercing Soul Inquisitor.

    THE TRUTH ACTION

I’m getting offers here and there
    From a buyer or two,
A crazed collector and a billionaire,
    Who’ve heard about my truth.

You see, I own some truth
    That I bought years ago,
In an auction that soared to a record high
    Though the bidding started low

    CHORUS
But the auctioneer looked in my eyes
And he gave the devil a wink
And they drove the bidding up sky high
Before I had time to think
So I paid and I paid dearly
And it cost me very nearly
    Every young dream I had
And I can see now oh so clearly
The lies they told me most sincerely
Drove me to the truth of the mad

When I get offers now these days
I think back on the years
When they laughed at my madness that would pay
A fortune for trash and tears

They tell me that I could earn it back
    And lose this solitude
And the truth is I’m tempted by the thought
    But I still always conclude

    CHORUS
That the auctioneer is still out there
And knows he and the devil lost
When they drove that bidding up sky high
Though it seemed I paid the cost
Yes I paid for the sins of my fathers
And I paid for sins of my own
But if the truth were told
If my truth were ever sold
    I’d find myself completely bankrupt
And I would still be here alone.

  • Victory
WILDFLOWER (An adapted pop version of Pachelbel’s Canon)

Once you were a field of wildflowers
Beneath the mountain gods of stone
With tyrant eyes and towering lies
They swayed and groaned as the wind moaned

Then the earthquake smashed them on you
And their stone eyes and their stone lies
Buried under rubble all you were and hoped to be
    Except one seed
    That won’t concede
    And braves the crags
    And razor jags
    To rise alone
    Up through the stones
    And through the snow
    Where ice winds blow
    And shadows loom
    On all that blooms
    Where fear, like frost
    Froze all you’ve lost

    CHORUS
    As long as you grow,
    Within your mind a universe
    Of stars glint and glow
You spread your roots like hidden wings
    In the earth below
    And every root
    Prepares to shoot
    When spring melts the snow
    And you’re content to know
    That idols are bare thrones
That crumble into rocks and stones
    And quake and brake
    And fall and crash
    On all they crush
    And you know
    You may never be
    That field that once grew
    But you’ve lived to see
    The hour that you
    Could rise above stones
    And rise through the snow
    And send your stars
Into the mountain winds that blow
And when spring melts the snow
    Somewhere, you know
Those stars will fall, but some will rise
    And flower the earth
    As stars flower skies
    Don’t feel weak alone
    For strength is the flower
That can rise through stone. (repeat)

    BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

    Sweet Victory
    Wait up for me
    I’m chasing you forever
    Goodbye Defeat
    I won’t retreat
    We don’t belong together
    Eternity’s too far to see
So you won’t hear me say never
    Somewhere out there
    Beyond despair
    Is better late than never

    CHORUS
    Better late than never
    No storm can last forever
My lucky star is in those cards
    And I’ll be here whenever
    Better late than never
    Brings you and me together
    Sweet Victory
    Don’t run from me
We’ll be the best team ever

    This dream won’t die
    As long as I
    Stand here well and alive
    So long defeat
    I won’t be beat
I was put here to survive
    Possibility is infinity
So you won’t hear me say never
    I know out there
    From out thin air
    Comes better late than never

    CHORUS
    Better late than never
    No storm can last forever
My lucky star is in those cards
    And I’ll be here whenever
    Better late than never
    Brings you and me together
    Sweet Victory
    Don’t run from me
We’ll be the best team ever
    Better late than never
    Will bring us both together
    Sweet victory
    Wait up for me
I’ll chase you till the end of forever.

THE QUESTIONER (A pop adaptation of a classical piece by Handel)

All he did was ask a question,
A simple sentence in a whispered breath.
Who could have known that little sentence
Would mean his sentence unto death?

His tragedy was that his question
    Whisper-echoed far too far,
And caused an avalanche of questions
Of what they’ve done and who they are.

When silence swallows all the laughter,
And all the sobs and all the screams,
When safety is a vacant smile,
    Boarded across dangerous dreams,

That’s when a whispered little question
Disturbs the peace wrought with violence,
And smashes like glass shattered en masse
The grand alliance of our silence,

    And whisper-echoes far too high,
And far too low and far too far,
And makes us question how and why
We made them into what they are.

We sold our hands for bread to their Baker.
Our tongues we sold to their Butcher for fear.
We sold our eyes to their Candlestick Maker,
Who snuffed out all flames and cried “Light is here!”

We sold our flatteries for silver.
We sold our bravest defenders for gold.
We shrugged their blood from off our shoulders
And said, “Fools and heroes never grow old.”

Like snowflakes our sins fell with theirs one by one,
As we hailed in the dawn of the New Ice Age.
We took our warmth from the weak winter sun
That promises spring when the blizzards don’t rage.

His tragedy was that his question
    Came too early before springtime.
    And when the avalanche uncovered
How we’d partaken of their crime,
We stood stunned and watched him die
With a few like him in the snow.
But as the sun smiled across the sky,
We knew what answers not to know.
We knew exactly what not to know.

    NEVER THERE

“Have you no recollection?” asked the Collector for his collection.

“No,” smiled the man. “I do not recall anything at all.”

“And do you not remember whose memories were dismembered?”

“I do not recall such memories at all.”

“I’m afraid,” said the Collector, “I really must insist.
My sources tell me these memories did exist.”

“I’m sorry,” smiled the man, “But I have no recollection
That could be of any use to your collection.
And to be perfectly honest, and perfectly fair,
I doubt you’ll find these memories anywhere.”

“So,” said the Collector, “they’ve vanished in thin air?”

“No sir,” smiled the man, “they were simply never there.”

    CHORUS
“Never there! Never there!” wailed the ghosts of thin air.
    “We’re nothing but a figment of a madman’s nightmare. (Repeat 2x)
A straight-laced man now laced straight in a jacket,
Who howls to God and ghosts above a screaming dungeon’s racket.”

“I’m afraid,” said the Collector, “I still must insist.
The dismemberment of remembrance is an appalling list.”

“I’m sorry you feel this way,” smiled the man.
“And let me assure you, I’ll help all I can.
If we work together, I’m sure we’ll soon agree
The dismemberment on this list does not reflect reality.
And if it did occur, it was by natural cause.
After all, dismemberment’s against our highest laws.
I do think it’s wasting time, but to be really fair,
I’ll help you prove once and for all, these memories were not there.”

    CHORUS
“Never there! Never there!” sang the ghosts of thin air.
“We are the phantom vision of a dead man’s glassy stare. (Repeat 2x)
A law-minded man who died by natural cause,
Shot like a dog for faithfulness to our highest laws.”

“I’m astounded,” said the Collector, “by so much natural cause.”

“No proof, no guilt,” smiled the man. “That’s the beauty of our laws.
And, dismemberment and murder are a matter of semantics,
These are just self-righteous words for self-righteous romantics.
Death is a natural thing and a right, I think.”
Then the smiling man leaned forward and poured himself a drink.
And looking out the window, his mind took flight
To a steak and a whirl with the lap dance girl
And a good long sleep tonight.
Yes, a steak and whirl with the lap dance girl
And a good long sleep tonight.

    CHORUS
Never there! Never there!” wailed the ghosts of thin air.
    “We’re nothing but a figment of a madman’s nightmare.
“Never there! Never there!” sang the ghosts of thin air.
“We are the phantom vision of a dead man’s glassy stare.
A law-minded man who died by natural cause,
Shot like a dog for faithfulness to our highest laws.
Yes, shot like a dog for faithfulness to our highest laws.

  • Pain of Life
    NIGHTINGALE

I smashed my heart into thousands of pieces so your heart could stay whole
I flung up the pieces for God to star the skies
I made a cross of my sapling dreams and crucified my soul
And lit my darkness with the stars reflected in your eyes

I reaped the bitter harvest that was sown for me
And ate it with the bitter harvest I have sown
I unearthed the hideous secrets that were once known for me
And buried them with the secrets I have known

    CHORUS
And I watched you all the while
    Chirping little child
Singing little nightingale on a pomegranate tree
    And as I played pretend
I told my heart to mend
And just be happy that you would never have to live like me

I turned away from the rainbows I once chased in my youth
I traded a golden destiny for doom
I wavered when Death came courting with his dark and painful truth
But I sent him off and stayed on here to embrace this living tomb

    CHORUS
And I prayed all the while
As you twittered like a child
A nightingale pecking the ruby pomegranate fruit
    That you would never see
How my soul’s drained from me
Drop by drop to feed the ruby pomegranate’s roots

But now that years have passed
    I’ve seen what little lasts
Your beak won’t touch the ruby berries and your song has long gone mute
For the pain that ground me like stone
To atone for the sins of my flesh and bones
Seeped into the tree that fed you drop by drop at the roots

Now it’s almost my time to go
But I wanted you to know
That I’d love to hear you sing just now and then
And when I’m long gone from your side
Look how the stars stretch far and wide
And know I tried, my love, I tried
And if I had it to do over, I’d try again. (Repeat)

  • Love
THE END (A pop adaptation of a classical piece by Franz Schubert)

    Tears, spit and simple dreams
All I ever wanted to do
Was dance in a sea storm
With the thunder, wind and you
    I always thought
    Simple dreams could come true
I didn’t know storms, wind and thunder
End in silence like the grave
    And tear asunder
The dreams you’ve tried to save

    What is left to say?
When your breath has swallowed your voice?
    The answer is simple
    There’s really no other choice
Let a silent breath announce once and for all
The time has come for the time to come
    And life’s road splits ways
    With the ways of some
    Till the end of days

    CHORUS
    But let’s stay awhile
    For one last long smile
    I know that you
    Don’t want us to
    But let’s be polite
    And kiss goodnight
    And part when we
    Are far from sight
    A friend’s a friend if you pretend
    Till shortly past the end.

    Tears, spit and simple dreams
All I want for now is to be
A dancer in a sea storm
With the thunder, wind and me
I never knew broken dreams could break me free
And dreams are endless as the waves
That wash and wane at sea
They sink and rise from watery graves
As they return and turn from me

    What is left to dream
When your dreams have passed with a breath?
    The answer is simple
The sea breathes life into death
The sea may break the waves
But the waves can’t break the sea
And the sea always finds a wave
To return my dreams to me
    Yes it sends a wave
To return my dreams to me.

    CHORUS
    So let’s be polite
    And kiss goodnight
    And part when we
    Are far from sight
    Don’t think that you
    Have broken me
    My dreams are still
    A great vast sea
It’s just good taste to play pretend
    Till shortly past the end.

SILVER MOONBEAM (A pop adaptation of a classical piece by Mozart)

    Once upon a silver moonbeam
    I dreamed a little dream
That you and I flew in the sky
And twirled round the world so high
    You plucked a diamond star
And gave it to me as a ring
    The whole world hushed
    I smiled and blushed
And thought I heard the angels sing

    CHORUS
But just before you said you loved me
Just before we kissed, it seems
That someone spoke and we awoke
And realized it was a dream
And never has a silver moonbeam
Ever crossed my dreams since then
Perhaps the stars know you’re too far
For us to ever meet again

I’ll never grow too old to care
Or to pray this little prayer
That a moonbeam will cross your dreams
And take you all the way back there

    CHORUS
To where you almost said you loved me
    Halfway round the Milky Way
When someone spoke and we awoke
And turned and went our separate ways
Cause never has a silver moonbeam
Ever crossed my dreams since then
Wherever you are, I pray the stars
Will keep you till we meet in a dream again. (Repeat)

WEDDING SONG (A pop adaptation of a classical piece by Bach)

Dawn is the dimness that bursts into light
Sunset’s the flame that lights stars in the night
The wheat kernel falls and dies in the earth
For seasons to harvest new life by death and rebirth

    Every ending brings beginnings
Change is faithful as the rising sun
Flame of life that’s ever spinning
Life from all the life it has spun

Now I pledge my life to you
My heart, soul and mind replete
With rebirth into love so true
    My incompletion now complete

Water of diamonds, you quench like the rain
Lily of comfort you grow through the briars
Brighter than gold, you are my life’s grain
Dearer than gems, you’re the rock that withstands flood and fire

I will follow wherever you go
I will stay wherever you stay
Together we will reap and sow
As the sun spins new life from our life till the end of our days.

    IF YOU ONLY KNEW

    Yesterday’s too far away
    It seems like an eternity
Like a ray of sun you shone my way
Like a shadow you slipped away from me

Oh I wonder if you would notice me
If you knew how I see you
And I wonder what you would think of me
If you knew what I think of you

    CHORUS
    Oh, if you only knew
    How I’ve danced with you
    Under starry skies
    Inside my head
    And if you only knew
All the things I tell you
As we sail around the world
    When I go to bed

If I could wish upon a star
I’d take the star to break in two
I’d keep half for me to wear on my heart
And I’d give the other half to you

And I’d hope it would make you think of me
The way I think of you
And I’d hope it would make you dream of me
As much as I dream of you

    CHORUS
    Oh if you only knew
    Where I’ve been with you
    We have traveled all
    Through history
We had the queen to tea
At our castle by the sea
And solved a thousand ancient mysteries

    Yesterday’s too far away
    It seems like an eternity
Like a ray of sun you shone my way
Like a shadow you slipped away from me

    CHORUS
    But if you only knew
All the things we’ve been through
In a thousand dreams I dream each day
    And if you only knew
    What I’d do for you
I wonder if you’d throw one glance my way
    Would you fly with me
To our castle by the sea
And dance in the breeze of a summer night
Just one long dance to give love a chance
    And would I ever see
The day you dream of me
Just one long dance to give love a chance
    And will I ever see
The day you dream of me.
